In 2011, we installed a Biogas system at a Western Prime meat processing facility.

The facility was also a cattle ranch. These cattle produced manure. This manure decayed into methane, which was polluting the atmosphere.

We installed a system that collects methane from the manure and uses it as fuel to generate electricity for the facility. The photo at right is one of the agitator tanks that encourages methane production.

Biogas systems take many forms. One of the most common types is a cogeneration system; this is because the waste heat can be used to accelerate anaerobic digestion. This system produces more methane which can be burned to generate more power.

These systems also produce sterilized manure for use as fertilizer. They also provide a “tea” or slurry which is quite sought after for growing. These fertilizers can be utilized for growing crops yourself or can be sold to other farmers.

As EPA regulations get more and more strict, they may attempt to require ranchers to capture carbon emissions from manure. Our biogas equipment allows you to generate electricity and fertilizer all the while reducing your environmental impact.
